Sam Houston’s Kissing Tree
This fall’s crop of acorns from the Kissing Tree (San Marcos, TX) are already sprouting!
Sam Houston made a speech underneath the boughs of this tree in 1857 in his campaign to become the Governor of Texas. After the speech, Houston kissed (rather ambitiously) several of the attractive women who had presented him with a Texas flag as a gift.
That’s the story behind how this beautiful tree became known as the Kissing Tree!
