The Lonesome Dove Story Begins with This Tree
We will have saplings from the Goodnight Loving Pecan for sale this fall.
Under this pecan tree in 1866, Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving formed an agreement to drive their cattle north to sell to settlers, military forts and Indian camps. The Goodnight Loving Trail became the primary route to drive cattle from Texas thru New Mexico and all the way to Wyoming -over 2,000 miles!
The Pulitzer Prize winning “Lonesome Dove” is based on the stories of how Goodnight and Loving formed their partnership, acquired their cattle, then fought off drought, sickness and Comanches to deliver the cattle to the midwest markets when nobody else would even try.
